Designs inspired by Astro Photography

The Hobby

As a passionate lover of astronomy and photography, I have found the perfect hobby that combines my two favorite pastimes: astro photography. There is something truly magical about capturing the beauty of the universe through the lens of a camera, and the art of astro photography has become my favorite way to explore the cosmos.

Astro photography is the process of capturing images of celestial objects such as planets, stars, nebulas and galaxies, using specialized equipment and techniques. With the right tools and expertise, one can capture breathtaking images of the universe, revealing its beauty in a way that is not visible to the naked eye.

The Tools

My fascination with astro photography began during my high school years, when I took my first astronomy course. From the moment I peered through a telescope and saw the rings of Saturn, I was hooked. But it was early for me to dive into this hobby, so 25 years later I bought my first telescope and the adventure finally began.

I started to develop my skills, learning about different types of telescopes, cameras, and lenses, as well as the techniques required to capture stunning images of the universe. It took me almost 2 years to gain some confidence that I am in the right path and finally I can say that I started feel satisfied.

The Playground

My shooting stage for astrophotography is situated on the roof of my house, conveniently located on the ring road. This vantage point offers me a unique perspective of the night sky. To the east, the sky has a Bortle scale rating of 4.5, indicating moderately dark skies with relatively low light pollution. This darker sky in the eastern direction allows for clearer views of celestial objects and enhances the overall quality of my astrophotography. To the west, the sky has a slightly higher Bortle scale rating of 5.6. While it is not as dark as the eastern side, it still offers reasonably good conditions for astrophotography. The light pollution is slightly more pronounced, but with proper techniques and equipment, I can still capture stunning images of the cosmos. Overall, my shooting stage on the roof, situated on the ring road, provides a fantastic platform for my astrophotography hobby. It combines a favorable location with different sky conditions, allowing me to capture the wonders of the night sky from the comfort of my own home.

The Processing

When it comes to stacking and post-processing astro images, a significant amount of computing power can be beneficial to ensure efficient and high-quality results.

Post-processing tasks generally require software tools like Adobe Photoshop, PixInsight, or specialized astrophotography software. The computing power needed for post-processing depends on the complexity of the adjustments and the size of the image. More powerful processors, larger amounts of RAM, and capable graphics cards can expedite the process, especially when working with high-resolution images or applying computationally intensive algorithms.

Overall, while it is possible to perform astro image stacking and post-processing on modest hardware configurations, having a more powerful computer with a capable CPU, sufficient RAM, and optionally a GPU can greatly expedite the process, reduce waiting times, and provide a smoother editing experience.

The Collection

Over time a started to pile up my Astro photos. Share them to communities, getting likes, good comments, bad comments, advises by experts. And I started to wonder if there is a way to use these photos not only as a showcase but in more practical way to bring them closer to all of us.

The Designs

One day I was thinking: “Astro photos are stunning and visually appealing images. They showcase the beauty and magnificence of the universe, including galaxies, stars, planets, nebulas and more. By incorporating these images into garments, I could create unique and eye-catching designs that are sure to capture the attention of fashion enthusiasts.

The Idea was born: Roof made designs out of my own Astro photos:
